Individual Reflection

I was really touched by the movie “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale” during my research for the booth’s concept. The movie really made an impact on me of the bond between humans and animals, particularly dogs. I watched two versions one Chinese and the other Japanese. The core of the story resolves around Hachi, who was originally a stray dog but found a lovable professor that fell for him at first sight. Hachi’s loyalty to the professor endured nearly ten years even after the professor passed away. Hachi waited everyday at the same train station hoping for the professor to come back was the most touching part. The ending of the Chinese version was really good! Watching both versions of the story made me realize that even stray dogs deserve care and love. The challenges I encountered when creating the concept were that I was uncertain whether adopting was really a good choice for those who had no experience of taking care of animals. Would the animals really be treated well? Would the owner treat them the same as in the movie? But these doubts were lessened after seeing more stories of the animals’ physical and mental states after adoption. I believe that every animal deserves a home. I originally had no intention of creating a photobook as a product, but after watching the movie, it made me realise that capturing the unique moments with our pets can really give certain amount of emotional satisfaction. As a pet lover myself, I hope that every animal can find their way home, just like the movie “A Dog’s Way Home”. I was inspired by this movie that I decided to create a keychain or badge for the animals adopted so that they can always connect with their owners even if misfortune happens.
